How we operate
Permanent solutions to save lives
In 50 years of action we have learnt to optimise limited financial means to obtain the best possible results, which means human lives saved. We pay particoluar attention to the most treatable conditions and the most vulnerable groups, women children and young people who live in the most remote and disadvantaged areas. We promote the use of techniques and technologies economically sustainable. We strengthen the local health system, enabling local staff and existing facilities to work efficiently and autonomously.
Strengthen the national system, the workers and the local communities
We support and train healthcare professionals and the community, to allow them to provide care and manage services, even in the most disadvantaged situations. We train “non-doctors” to provide life-saving surgical procedures such as Caesarean sections, even in more remote areas where doctors are often not willing to live. Italian volunteer doctors engage in numerous missions of support and training. We provide information and training to local communities, so they can benefit from existing healthcare services and change their practices.
Collaboration and appropriate technologies
We promote collaboration and synergies with communities and local istitutions by the activation of bottom up virtous action, such as community groups, working together to identify needs and solutions and a long lasting relations that enable the effectiveness of programs. We utilize appropriate technologies and sustainable techniques such as Kangaroo Mother Care for preterm and low-birth-weight newborns. Because they meet criteria for inexpensiveness and effectiveness and they motivate communities to use available heathcare services. We explore innovative approaches for example One Health. Because studying the relation between human health and its various determinants enables the identification of new and more effective solutions.
Comitato Collaborazione Medica CCM is a NGO committed to promote the right to health and ensure access to essential health care in Africa and in Italy. For 50 years, we have been building upon the skills of local health workers to ensure the provision of quality care to the most vulnerable communities.
