CCM has been working in Ethiopia since 1982. It is present in several areas, namely in Tigray Region and Amhara Region (North Ethiopia), Bale Zone of Oromia Region (central Ethiopia), Liben Zone of the Somali Region (South Ethiopia) and in the capital Addis Abeba.

Ethiopia ranges 174th out of 188 countries in the Human Development Index 2017 and it is one of the poorest countries in the world with an income of 1.523$ per capita per year and 33,5% people below the poverty line (less than 2$ per day). The population is young (average life expectancy is 64.6 years) with 40% below 14 years of age.

Health indictors are among the worst in Africa (neonatal mortality 29/1,000 births, child mortality 48/1,000 and mothers mortality 412/100,000 childbirths) and the degree of satisfaction of health services is the lowest in the world (19%). The problem is made even worse by the diffusion of HIV/AIDS which mostly affects young adults.
At present the country is trying to cope with its¬†rapid demographic growth¬†generated by¬†internal migration,¬†presence of refugees,¬†willingness to migrate from unemployed young people, high presence of ‚Äúreturning migrants‚ÄĚ.

CCM activities in the country in different regions follow three main axes of intervention:

Support to the health system

The support to the health system throught the continuous training and technical support of health staff at different levels (health post, health center and hospitals), the strenghten of infrastructures and equipements.

Awarness of local communities

The awarness of local communities about health services and the promotion of good practises of prevention and care at family and community level.

Capacity building

The capacity building of health authorities at woreda, zonal and regional level.
